Can I start teaching Pilates while I am still training?

Yes — you can teach while you are still training, as long as you are insured and transparent about your trainee status.

You are not fully qualified until you have received both your Level 3 Mat and Level 3 Reformer certificates. However, many learners begin gaining experience before they qualify, and this can be a valuable part of your development as an instructor.

You can teach during your training if:

  • You have insurance that specifically covers instructors in training.

  • You are honest and transparent with any clients, studios, or employers that you are still completing your qualification.

Teaching while you train can help you:

  • Build confidence

  • Practise cueing and class flow

  • Develop your teaching voice

  • Apply what you’ve learned in real time

Just make sure you only teach movements and levels that you have already been trained in, so you remain safe and within your current scope of practice.

Important reminder

You will be considered a fully qualified Pilates instructor only once:

  • You have completed all course requirements, and

  • Have received both Mat and Reformer Level 3 certificates.
