Do I have to record all sets or just one for my gym induction video?

You don’t need to record every set — just enough to clearly demonstrate your coaching, observation, and progression skills.

Your gym induction video is designed to assess your ability to coach effectively, not just to show that your client completed every planned set. You can record fewer sets than outlined in your plan as long as you meet all the required assessment criteria within the footage you submit.

For resistance exercises:

  • You don’t need to record every set listed in your plan.

  • For example, if you planned 3 sets of 10 reps for a goblet squat, recording 2 full sets is usually sufficient.

  • During these sets, make sure you demonstrate your ability to:

    • Monitor and adjust intensity and technique.

    • Correct form and provide feedback as needed.

    • Progress or regress the exercise or load based on the client’s performance.

  • If your plan includes single sets for certain exercises, one filmed set is fine — just make sure you’ve shown enough coaching and observation to meet all assessment criteria.

⚠️ Common mistake: Some learners perform one set and move straight on without checking intensity or adapting the exercise. Always show that you’re actively monitoring, coaching, and evaluating throughout.

For cardiovascular (CV) exercises:

  • You don’t need to record the entire duration of the CV component.

  • Focus on showing the aerobic curve:

    • 2–3 minutes of warm-up or re-warm,

    • 5–10 minutes at working intensity, and

    • A short cool-down period.

  • If your session includes intervals or circuits, two rounds is typically enough to demonstrate that you’re monitoring intensity, adapting exercises, and communicating effectively.

💡 Tip: Always review your footage before uploading to ensure it captures the full range of coaching behaviours the assessor needs to see — not just your client performing the exercises.
